About Me

Melissa Owens

Mixed Media Artist, Felter, and Weaver

I am an engineer and healthcare IT exec by day and mixed media artist by night. Drawn to the combination of fiber with wood, I routinely walk in the woods picking up branches and having one way chats with the local fauna or hang out at the wood mill gazing longingly at live edge cut offs for my inspiration. My art is focused on the feelings and imagery that the nature around me evokes.

I combine needle felting, wet felting and nuno felting techniques and sometimes incorporate methods such as joomchi if I am trying to capture a specific texture into my pieces and I almost always integrate some form of wood.

Wisconsin girl that resources my materials from local farms and small businesses.
